Forest of Bowland Sustainable Development Fund

September 2014

With the support of the Forest of Bowland AONB Sustainable Development Fund we hosted several events in 2014 to log and remove invasive non-native species from the area. In addition to arranging to spray Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed, we also held training events and volunteer days to control Himalayan Balsam including a series of balsam bashes around Caton and the Crook of Lune and several school events with many enthusiastic balsam jumpers! Big thanks go to all those who attended as well as key stage 2 children from Wray, Caton St.Pauls and Quermore Primary schools who proved to be very knowledgeable and excellent bashers! We are keen to continue our work in these schools and expand our education programme.
