Tebay Gill Natural Flood Management

March 2021

With funding from the Environment Agency through their Cumbria NFM project, we undertook a Natural Flood Management project to help reduce the risk of flooding at Tebay. Working with a local farmer, we constructed 110 leaky dams and planted 500 trees on a number of becks on Tebay Fell. 5 of these leaky dams form demonstration site, which is easily accessible from Tebay village. Lancaster University have also installed a number of monitoring instruments and fixed point cameras to monitor the rainfall conditions, and the performance of the leaky dams. This project was completed in March 2021.
